Mechanic

Where there’s gear there’s maintenance and there’s  no shortage of either on a cotton farm, as a farm mechanic you will work on a wide range of farm machinery from the farm utes to bores and pumps to million dollar tractors and pickers and everything in between. But its not just all mechanical work, on many farms the mechanic also helps out with other aspects of farm life such as tractor driving and irrigation.

To become a mechanic its a four year apprenticeship, they are generally done off farm at a mechanics workshop or through a machinery dealer, the apprenticeship will give you all the knowledge you’ll need as a mechanic, the rest will come on farm learning how to operate tractors and other farm machinery as well as carry out other farm activities.

A farm mechanic can earn over $65 000 a year
